How to Make Roti

A simple guide to preparing delicious Indian flatbread

Ingredients:

  • Whole wheat flour (atta)
  • Water
  • Salt (optional)

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • Mix whole wheat flour and water to form a soft, non-sticky dough.
    • Optionally, add a pinch of salt for taste.
  2. Rest the Dough:
    • Cover the dough and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Divide and Roll:
    • Divide the dough into small balls.
    • Roll each ball into thin, round shapes using a rolling pin.
  4. Cook the Roti:
    • Heat a griddle or tawa on medium-high heat.
    • Cook the roti on the griddle, flipping until brown spots form.
  5. Direct Flame (Optional):
    • For puffing, briefly expose the roti to an open flame.
  6. Serve Hot:
    • Brush with ghee or butter and serve with your favorite dishes.
